Stuart Karle

Stuart Karle is a former General Counsel for The Wall Street Journal and other Dow Jones publications.

He earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Columbia and then became a reporter for a Dow Jones newswire before attending law school at the University of Chicago. He then rejoined Dow Jones in 1992 as counsel in the legal department, responsible for libel and privacy matters.

He was involved in the defence in the MMAR Group, Inc litigation , which led to the largest libel award ever - US$222.7 million - before the case was finally dismissed. He also assisted Murray Hiebert, the Far Eastern Economic Review bureau chief who was jailed in Malaysia over a story on Malaysian lawsuits.
